Adam Gill concentrates his practice in the area of construction law and litigation and is a member of Duane Morris’ national Construction Practice Group. Mr. Gill represents general contractors, construction managers, owners, architects and engineers, design builders, subcontractors, and material suppliers in matters involving contract drafting, contract negotiation, breach of contract claims, claims for extras, delay, disruption, loss of productivity, excessive change orders and out-of-scope work and claims involving mechanics liens.
Mr. Gill is a 2006 cum laude graduate of DePaul University College of Law and a graduate of Kansas State University. Prior to entering the practice of law, Mr. Gill worked as an architect for eight years and is a licensed architect in Illinois and Missouri.
Representative Matters:
- Represented the Construction Manager on a project involving the construction of seven pump stations for an oil pipeline that travels through multiple states, arising from a claim for breach of contract brought by a prime contractor against the pipeline owner.
- Negotiated and drafted construction agreements for property owners and General Contractors for commercial projects, including new construction, renovation and tenant improvement.
- Represented General Contractor in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit alleging fraud against the Public Building Commission of Chicago, alleging that the PBC hid the fact that there were asbestos-wrapped pipes subsurface that were uncovered during construction, which resulted in significant delays and additional costs.
- Defending a prime contractor against subcontractor’s claims for additional compensation arising from delays in the work caused by others on a new $600 million, 800,000-square-foot hospital building.
- Defending a general contractor from liquidated damages claims brought by developer arising from construction delays on a 60-story mixed use building.
- Representing a general contractor against owner in a dispute arising from additional work required because of unanticipated site conditions at owner’s intermodal freight facility.
- Representing subcontractor in litigation relating to mechanics lien recorded by supplier and prime contractor’s failure to make payments on municipal sewer restoration project.
- Defending a construction lender with mortgage interest in real property from mechanics lien claims brought by a general contractor, subcontractors and material suppliers.
- Representing a design/build contractor in a dispute with property owner regarding project costs and payment for services rendered.
