Adam B. Weiss is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Munger, Tolles & Olson. Mr. Weiss’s practice spans a broad range of complex litigation matters, with a particular focus on representing corporations in cases involving mortgage-backed securities, corporate contracts, securities law issues, and other finance-related matters.

Some examples of recent matters handled by Mr. Weiss include:

  • Representing Bank of America and Merrill Lynch in numerous cases brought by securitization trustees, bond insurers, and others seeking billions of dollars on claims arising out of the purchase and sale of mortgage-backed securities.
  • Representing Bank of America in a $10 billion lawsuit brought by American International Group (AIG) alleging fraud in connection with AIG’s investments in residential mortgage-backed securities.
  • Representing and advising multiple financial institutions in connection with favorable settlements of threatened fraud and breach of contract claims related to the issuance of mortgage-backed securities.

In addition to his client work, Mr. Weiss is actively involved in the community. Among other things, he serves as a member of Public Counsel’s Leadership Council, the Advisory Board of the Western Center on Law & Poverty and the Los Angeles Advisory Board of Facing History and Ourselves, and is involved with a number of other community organizations.

Prior to joining Munger Tolles, Mr. Weiss was an associate at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York, where he represented and advised a number of financial institutions and other corporate clients in connection with multiple complex settlements with private parties and government regulators, as well as a variety of complex securities law, fraud, and other civil litigation matters.

Mr. Weiss received his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a James Kent Scholar and executive articles editor of the Columbia Law Review. Following law school, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Debra Ann Livingston of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Mr. Weiss is admitted to practice in California and New York.
