Adam W. Axler is an associate in the health care and life sciences practice. Mr. Axler advises a wide range of health industry clients—from health care providers to pharmaceutical companies to health insurers—on issues involving regulatory compliance, privacy, Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement, and defense of False Claims Act cases.
He has played a leading role in compliance, breach response and transaction matters for cybersecurity, privacy and data protection clients primarily in the health sector. Mr. Axler has experience analyzing compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley (GLB) Act and state breach notification laws, among others.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Axler served as acting legislative director and senior legislative assistant for Rep. Joe Sestak, covering health and education policy.
During law school, Mr. Axler interned with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Division of the Office of the General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). He also served as legal intern in the Health Care Bureau of the New York State Office of the Attorney General.
Mr. Axler received his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2015, where he was a Quorum editor for the New York University Journal of Law and Public Policy, a Guarini Scholar in the Frank J. Guarini Institute for Government Leadership and a Herman Biggs Health Policy Fellow. Mr. Axler received his A.B. from Brown University in 2008.
