Alan R. Dial’s practice focuses on white collar criminal cases, complex civil litigation, internal investigations and compliance counseling. As a partner in the Government Investigations practice, Alan represents individuals and companies in a variety of governmental investigations and civil litigation matters.
With experience litigating both criminal and civil trials as well as appeals, Alan represents clients in matters such as pharmaceutical and medical device (criminal and civil investigations), False Claims Act litigation, antitrust cartel investigations, and tax and accounting fraud investigations.
He frequently defends companies and individuals in prosecutions and investigations conducted by U.S. Attorneys’ offices and divisions of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), including Antitrust, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
From 1998 to 2004, Alan left our firm to serve as an Assistant United States Attorney in Atlanta and San Diego. In this role, he tried and prosecuted various criminal cases, winning convictions in all his felony jury trials. He also represented the U.S. in oral argument before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth and Eleventh Circuits, served as lead counsel for the FBI anti-money laundering initiative, and lectured on the prosecution of financial crimes before foreign law enforcement officials.
An author and speaker on various criminal law topics, Alan is active in pro bono work, and served as a Board member of the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia in 2015 and 2016. Before pursuing his law degree, Alan played professional football for the Philadelphia Eagles.
