
Alan is a senior member of our Litigation Division, the Chair of our Sports and Entertainment Law Group and our Family Law Practice Group. Alan is an accomplished trial attorney. In this age of specialization, Alan has developed the legal expertise to handle any case and any client that requires and demands his legal representation.
From the representation of high net worth individuals in business disputes and divorces to the representation of multi-millionaire athletes and entertainers, Alan utilizes his charismatic personality and aggressive litigation skills to zealously represent his clients. In his over 30 years of experience, Alan has developed a diverse practice catering to the varied needs of his clients. Alan focuses his practice in the areas of civil litigation, commercial law, family law, sports and entertainment law and international law.
He has tried over one hundred jury and non-jury trials in which he has represented a broad spectrum of clients such as banks, developers, financial institutions, real estate agencies, corporations, partnerships, estates and individuals involving fraud, breach of contract, intentional interference with contractual relationships, defamation, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, RICO and civil theft.
Recently Alan represented an Attorney who was accused of conspiring with his client and others to defraud a former landowner of its interest in property. After a two-week trial, the jury returned a defense verdict for the Attorney although finding against the other defendants resulting in a judgment of $25,000,000.
He has been involved in representing clients from Spain, South, Central and Latin America and has a strong interest in International Trade. Having traveled throughout the regions and representing multinational clients, Alan has expanded his Sports and Entertainment practice internationally. Recently, Alan was instrumental in negotiating licensing agreements with Sevilla F.C., a premier Spanish “La Liga” Professional Soccer Team to expand their brand to the United States.
Sevilla FC is prepared to open youth soccer academies through Florida and the United States and to market merchandise and to compete in “friendly” soccer matches. Mr. Fertel will also be representing Sevilla FC in their efforts to break into the United States soccer market. Mr. Fertel seeks to bring multiple business opportunities to the United States, as a result, of his international business connections.
Having lived in Miami for the last 37 years, Alan has watched, attentively, the compelling issues that concern the Cuban Trade Embargo and its impact on the Nation of Cuba as well as on the many Cubans living in the Miami/South Florida area. As the Embargo has been lifted Alan has concentrated his efforts on placing his clients in the proper position to attempt to penetrate the Cuban market.
He has met with several high ranking Legislators, lobbyists, lawyers, bankers and businessmen in order to properly position his clients to enter this emerging market. Alan seeks to bring multiple business and sports opportunities to Cuba from the United States.
Mr. Fertel also heads the Firm’s Family Law Practice Group. He is an experienced and aggressive Family Law attorney who has represented numerous high net worth individuals in dissolution proceedings, child custody matters, paternity cases and annulments. He has successfully garnished over $100 million in foreign assets while representing both domestic and international clients in dissolution proceedings in Florida.
Mr. Fertel uses his strong litigation and negotiating skills coupled with his Post Judgement collection knowledge, that he has honed in his years of practice, to recover and collect hidden assets throughout the world. Alan represents his clients zealously and effectively which provides his clients a very high level of confidence in this otherwise personally difficult and emotionally challenging area of the law. He is a staunch advocate of his clients’ legal rights with a personal understanding of the effects of divorce on both the parties as well as their children.
He is a frequent speaker and lecturer at sports and entertainment law seminars throughout Florida, the United States and Latin America. He is sought after to speak to law school, college and high school students and student athletes on various legal and ethical issues. Alan gives his time and efforts to various charitable and civil causes.
He was the Chair and a member of the Board of Directors of the Miami-Dade Sports Commission, is a member of the Greater Miami Sports Tourism Advisory Committee, a member of the Executive Committee of The Miami-Dade County Special Olympics, a member of The St. Thomas University Business School Advisory Council, a member of the Executive Council of the Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section of the Florida Bar where he is the Chair of the Sports Committee, and a member of the Lawyers Alliance of the Council for Educational Change.
