Alexander I. Saunders has more than 35 years of experience in taxation and corporate law. His practice includes tax planning for individuals and businesses, estate planning, and corporate sales and acquisitions. He also represents businesses and individuals before tax authorities and in court on tax matters.
Alex has written and lectured extensively on the fields of tax law, trust and estate law, and corporate law, and was one of the authors of the first treatise on limited liability companies in Virginia.
He is listed in Best Lawyers in America in the field of Taxation, Trusts and Estates, and Corporate Law and in Virginia Business as one of the Legal Elite in taxes/estates/trusts. Alex also has been named in The Roanoker magazine as the valley’s top attorney in the fields of Tax Law and Trusts and Estates by vote of members of the local bar.
Alex is a graduate of the University of Virginia and University of Virginia Law School and has a master of law degree in taxation from New York University. He served as law clerk to Judge H. S. Boreman of the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals before joining Woods Rogers.
Alex has served on the board of the Roanoke Valley YMCA. He has served on numerous other local charitable boards, including the Science Museum of Western Virginia and the Foundation for Roanoke Valley.
He is a member and former chairman of the Roanoke College Estate Planning Council, member and former chairman of the Ferrum College Estate Planning Council, member of the Roanoke Valley Estate Planning Council and member of The Jefferson Center’s Planned Giving Council.
