Alexandra M. Nieves represents companies in a diverse docket of individual claims and complex litigation, including high-profile product liability, international and commercial matters. Her work also includes fact investigation, development of case strategy, discovery, depositions, settlement negotiations and motion practice.
She has joined Shook’s Engle-progeny litigation team on several trials resulting in favorable results. Alexandra also represents a Fortune 500 company in international litigation and a global healthcare-technology company in business disputes. In addition, Alexandra has advised clients on a variety of employment-related policy matters and personnel issues.
While in law school, Alexandra earned a master’s degree in Business Administration, which further developed her ability to analyze legal issues from her clients’ perspectives.
Alexandra was born and raised in Puerto Rico and is fluent in Spanish. Her bilingual skills allow her to work with clients in litigation and commercial issues involving a Spanish-language component. Alexandra has maintained her connection to Puerto Rico since moving to Kansas City; during law school, she served as a judicial intern for the Hon.
Juan M. Pérez-Giménez of the U.S. District Court, District of Puerto Rico. Alexandra also was the 2017 non-partner recipient of Shook’s Mosaic Award for her “intentional and positive” mentoring of women attorneys, LGBT attorneys and attorneys of color, and a “consistent ambassador, supporter, ally and advocate for diversity and inclusion at Shook.”
Alexandra is also actively involved in the firm’s pro bono efforts, representing parents in child abuse and neglect cases and unaccompanied minors in immigration proceedings. In recognition of her pro bono efforts, Alexandra was named recipient of the firm’s William G. Zimmerman Pro Bono Award.
