Alicia Grahn Jones concentrates her practice in the areas of trademark clearance, prosecution, global portfolio strategy and trademark enforcement. Alicia specializes in strategic management of large global trademark portfolios. Alicia also has extensive experience representing clients before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

Alicia is a past President of the Board of Directors for the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Alicia was listed in the 2019 and the four immediately preceding editions of World Trademark Review 1000 – The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals. Alicia has been recognized as a Top 100 Georgia “Super Lawyer” and a Top 50 Women Georgia “Super Lawyer” in 2017 and 2018, a Georgia “Super Lawyer” for Intellectual Property in 2018 and the three years immediately preceding. She was honored as one of Georgia’s “Rising Stars” by The Daily Report at its 2017 Professional Excellence Awards event. Alicia is a member of the Intellectual Property Section of the Georgia Bar Association and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

Alicia was presented with the Visionary Award in 2014 by the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers (GAWL) and was a recipient of the 2013 Volunteer of the Year Award from Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network (GAIN). Alicia is a Co-Chair of the firm’s Women’s Initiative. Alicia earned her J.D. from Emory University School of Law and received her Bachelor of Arts from George Washington University, where she graduated cum laude in Political Science.

Experience:

  • Represents Energizer, the world famous manufacturer of batteries, in connection with its global trademark portfolio, including clearance, prosecution, and maintenance.
  • Represents a California-based Fortune 500 multinational corporation that designs and manufactures consumer electronics and computer software products in trademark enforcement work, including lead counsel representation of client in multiple proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
  • Successfully represented Texas Tech University in litigation to protect its school colors and trademarks. The firm’s motion for summary judgment resulted in the court finding liability as a matter of law, and also awarding more than $3 million in damages and attorneys’ fees. Texas Tech Univ. v. Spiegelberg, 461 F. Supp. 2d 510 (N.D. Tex. 2006).
  • Successfully represented University of Kansas in a trial against JoeCollege.com, a retailer selling various apparel using colors and other indicia of the University. Obtained award of attorneys’ fees. University of Kansas v. Larry Sinks, et al., 2008 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 23765 (D. Kan. 2008).
