Ammad Waheed is an associate in the Houston office of Mayer Brown’s Real Estate practice. He focuses on a variety of clients nationwide, and negotiates and drafts documents relating to commercial real estate issues.
He has successfully handled a diverse range of matters, including real estate transactions involving large, Class-A office spaces, retail spaces, and specialized medical facilities. Ammad has also been involved in corporate disposition and acquisition transactions.
Ammad brings broad litigation experience to his transactional practice, enabling him to provide a valuable perspective to clients seeking to minimize risk. He has assisted in several bankruptcy adversary proceedings on behalf of Lehman Brothers after the company’s historic bankruptcy confirmation.
Ammad also assisted in the representation of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation in a multi-billion dollar fraudulent conveyance case that went to trial. Additionally, he assisted in an arbitration between a large hospital and an insurance company, which involved complex contractual and state law issues.
Also important to Ammad is giving his time to numerous pro bono matters, including asylum and predatory business cases. For his efforts, Ammad was invited to join the Texas Pro Bono College as a result of contributing more than 75 hours in pro bono service. He serves on Mayer Brown’s Associate Diversity Council for the Houston office.
Prior to entering private practice, Ammad served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Gray H. Miller of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, and interned at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in Illinois.
Ammad is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Houston Law Center, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Barons. He graduated with general honors from the University of Chicago, with dual degrees in Philosophy and Biology, and is fluent in several languages, including German, Hindi, and Urdu.
