Amy T. Beller is Senior Counsel at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in the Firm’s Corporate Department and a member of the Firm’s Energy and Infrastructure Practice. Amy focuses on project and other corporate finance transactions in the energy sector and regularly advises commercial banks, investment banks and other financial institutions and companies in a broad range of financial transactions and regulatory matters. Amy also spent 1997 and 1998 in the Firm’s London office where she advised investment banks and issuers on a variety of international securities transactions.
Amy advised the lead arrangers in connection with the $250 million project financing of Cogentrix Power, LLC’s Cedar Bay co-generation facility, the lead arrangers in the $400 million project financing of Terra-Gen Power’s Alta Wind I wind power project, the lead arrangers in the $545 million acquisition financing of a portfolio of power plants by North American Energy Alliance, LLC, a subsidiary of IFM Infrastructure Funds, and the $665 million refinancing of this portfolio, the lead arrangers in the $1.365 billion financing of the acquisition of six power plants by LS Power, First Reserve Corporation in connection with the $1.1 billion project financing of the 695 MW Longview power project and the subsequent separate project financing of the related Dunkard Creek water facilities, and the lead arrangers in the $705 million financing for the construction and operation of a new power plant in New York State by Energy Capital Partners.
Amy has also advised the investors and underwriters on several recent wind power financings and securities offerings, including in connection with the $613 million senior secured notes and $141 million credit facilities financing of a portfolio of 13 wind generation facilities totaling 667 megawatts owned by Exelon Wind, LLC, an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Exelon Generation Company, LLC, the $1.2 billion bond/bank construction and leverage lease financing of the Alta Wind II-V 570 megawatt wind power portfolio developed by Terra Gen Power, the $202 million private placement by a subsidiary of NextEra Energy to finance a 643 megawatt portfolio of 11 wind power generating projects, the $205 million senior secured second lien notes offering by North American Energy Alliance and the acquisition of EverPower Wind Holdings by Terra Firma Capital Partners. Amy has also advised KKR Infrastructure Fund in its acquisitions and tax equity financings of two separate portfolios of solar power plants.
Amy joined Simpson Thacher in 1995 after receiving her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1995 (Stone Scholar) and was named Counsel in 2006 and Senior Counsel in 2008. She received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Dartmouth College in 1988 and a M.I.A. from the School of International and Public Affairs of Columbia University in 1995. Amy is a member of New York State Bar Association.
