Amy Latrese Cooper earned her B.A. from Millsaps College, and she earned her Juris Doctor degree from Emory University School of Law. After receiving her J.D. from Emory Law, Latrese allied herself with the experienced and extremely talented team of Atlanta Divorce Attorneys at Meriwether & Tharp, LLC.

As an Associate Attorney at Meriwether & Tharp, Latrese gained invaluable experience in the field of family law, specifically in the area of contested divorce. In 2013, Latrese relocated to Kansas City, MO with her husband Andrew. While in Kansas City, Latrese worked as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in the Family Support Division and General Crimes Unit of the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

While serving as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Latrese prosecuted non-support, weapons offenses, and various other felony and misdemeanors crimes, and gained invaluable jury trial experience.

In 2015, Latrese rejoined Meriwether & Tharp, brining with her the wealth of experience and judgment she gained as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. Currently, Latrese handles all aspects of family law litigation, and leverages a diverse set of tools to provide her clients with zealous advocacy and competent advice regarding a wide range of matters, such as strategic trial avoidance, the benefits of mediation, complex asset division, and the use of the discovery process.

Latrese also regularly contributes to a variety of legal publications including Meriwether and Tharp’s Atlanta Divorce Attorney blog. While in law school, Latrese developed a reputation for superior legal advocacy skills and was inducted into the National Order of Barristers, an honor given only to those achieving the highest level of competency in oral advocacy.

Divorce hurts but it doesn’t have to be nasty. Recognizing this, Latrese has designed her legal approach to emphasize three key areas: (1) client education to provide each of her clients with the information and answers they need to make informed decisions, (2) strategic case management to avoid unnecessary costs and evaluate the potential for settlement, and (3) early mediation to resolve cases without trial, because court should be the last option, not the first.
