He is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his undergraduate degree in 1984 from Birmingham-Southern College. He joined the University of Alabama School of Law and earned his Juris Doctorate in 1988. He started serving as a law clerk to the Associate Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, Honorable Janie L. Shores, during the year 1988-1989.
He has acquired the permission to practice law before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeal for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and in all state and federal courts in Alabama as well as Mississippi.

He frequently lectures at the labor and employment law seminars. In 2008, he started serving on the Executive Committee of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Alabama State Bar.
He has also served as the sections’ Chairman from 2013 to 2014. He was also in the Executive Committee as its immediate past-Chairman till 2015. Chambers USA listed him as one of the leading attorneys in Birmingham.
