Andrew Cath Rubenstein is an attorney in the San Francisco office of Munger, Tolles & Olson. Mr. Rubenstein’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation, with a particular emphasis on transnational matters and legal problems faced by the technology industry.
Mr. Rubenstein has experience litigating at both the trial and appellate levels. He has written and argued briefs and motions, prepared for and defended depositions, led discovery efforts, prepared experts for deposition, and managed pre-trial proceedings.

Mr. Rubenstein also maintains an active pro bono practice. He represents a California state prisoner pursuing free speech and religious free exercise claims, which Mr. Rubenstein briefed and argued to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has represented petitioners in a range of immigration proceedings, including asylum and post-conviction relief. And he has represented a group of constitutional and foreign relations law professors in filing an amicus brief to the Ninth Circuit advocating for the Constitution’s application to a shooting across the United States-Mexico border.
Before joining Munger Tolles, Mr. Rubenstein served as a law clerk to Judge A. Wallace Tashima of the Ninth Circuit and as an extern to Judge Charles R. Breyer of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. He worked before law school in the Office of the Legal Adviser for the U.S. Department of State and on an international development project in Sierra Leone.
Mr. Rubenstein received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he served as an articles editor for the Harvard Law Review. He received his undergraduate degree from Amherst College, cum laude.
