Ankur Mandhania

Mayer Brown

Ankur Mandhania is an associate in Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office and a member of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice. He joined the Firm in 2018, previously practicing in the San Francisco office of a California law firm.

Ankur has significant experience in Internet and privacy-related litigation and counseling. For example, Ankur has served as the lead associate on several class action defense teams involving such claims, authoring several motions to compel arbitration and motions to dismiss.

Outside of the litigation context, Ankur counsels Internet clients on best practices with respect to their terms of services and product warranties. Ankur has also litigated a number of other complex commercial disputes, including a six-week trial in Louisiana involving environmental matters and an antitrust case on behalf of a Class I railroad.

Ankur also maintains an active pro bono practice. Most recently, the ACLU of Southern California awarded Ankur (along with the rest of the team at his previous firm) the 2018 Equal Justice Award for his work in Youth Justice Coalition v. City of Los Angeles, a case challenging the City of Los Angeles’s unconstitutional practice of restricting the civil liberties of thousands of accused gang members without notice or an opportunity to contest the City’s allegations.

After the lawsuit was filed, the City voluntarily withdrew these restrictions for 7,300 of the nearly 8,900 accused individuals and announced that it would reform its gang injunction practices. After graduating law school, Ankur clerked for Judge Carlos T. Bea of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Ankur graduated magna cum laude from New York University School of Law in 2014, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif, a Furman Academic Scholar, a Florence Allen Scholar, a recipient of the Weinfeld Prize for Scholarship in Procedure and Courts, an Articles Editor on the New York University Law Review, the co-chair of the South Asian Law Student Association, and a research assistant for Professor Arthur Miller.

He also interned for Judge Jesse Furman of the Southern District of New York. Ankur received his BA from the University of California at Berkeley, where he majored in mathematics. He is fluent in Hindi, and a member of the State Bar of California.
