April Dunaway Wise

April Dunaway Wise is an attorney partner with the law firm Balch & Bingham LLP based in Montgomery, Alabama. She focuses her practice on areas such as estate and tax planning, estate and trust administration, special needs planning, settlement planning, and other probate court matters including guardianships, conservatorships, and adoptions.

She actively serves in the Montgomery Capital Rotary Club, and the Rotary International granted her Presidential Citation and Paul Harris Fellow in 2015. She volunteers at Wills for Heroes and ABA Operation Standby for Military Legal Assistance Attorneys since 2016 and 2015 respectively.

She is one of the Trustees at the Saint James School since 2016. She serves as the Treasurer of the Montgomery Estate Planning Council and past President of Montgomery Capital Rotary Club. She is a member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners, River Region Women In Business, American Bar Association, Alabama State Bar, and past member of the Montgomery Mayor’s Young Professional Council and Emerge Torchbearers Leadership Class IV.

She has served as the Co-Chair of Brantwood Children’s Home Committee at the Montgomery Junior League, a Board Member at the Montgomery Down Syndrome Group, a Member of the Board Of Directors at the Central Alabama Community Foundation, and a Secretary as well as a Member of the Board of Directors at the Montgomery Estate Planning Council.

April D. Wise obtained her Bachelor’s of Arts degree in accounting with honors from Auburn University in 2004. She served as an Internal Auditor Assistant at the Auburn University Internal Auditing Department during 2002 – 2004.

She went on to attend the Cumberland School of Law and simultaneously worked as a Summer Clerk with the law firms Kaufman & Rothfeder PC, Capell & Howard PC, and Wallace, Jordan, Ratliff & Brandt LLC.

While studying in law school, served as a Symposium Editor on the Editorial Board of the Cumberland Law Review, for Cumberland’s Legal Research and Writing program as an Abraham Caruthers Fellow, and as a President of the Christian Legal Society.

She earned her Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude, in 2008 and obtained the license to practice law in the state of Alabama in the same year. She started her legal career by joining the law firm Capell & Howard, P.C. as an attorney and later went on to become its shareholder.

April Dunaway Wise is a native of Enterprise, Alabama and has also served as an adjunct professor at Auburn University Montgomery where she taught Estate Planning to upper-level undergraduate students and graduate students during 2012 – 2014. She joined her current law firm in June 2018 as a Partner.
