Arthur Rooney is a partner in Baker McKenzie’s North America Compensation & Employment Law practice in Chicago. Joining the Firm in 2015, he brings with him nearly 15 years of experience in all areas of employment and labor law, with particular emphasis on defending employers in class and collective actions.
Mr. Rooney was previously a partner in another Chicago-based firm, and clerked for Judge Mary Beck Briscoe of the US Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
Mr. Rooney focuses on the defense of employers in litigation before federal and state courts, and administrative agencies throughout the US, including class action and multi-plaintiff employment discrimination lawsuits, state law overtime class actions, FLSA collective actions, FCRA class actions, and trade secrets and restrictive covenant matters.
He has significant experience in opposing class certification motions, has worked directly with experts in the fields of statistics and industrial engineering in response to class motions, and has resolved class actions through negotiated settlements.
Mr. Rooney also advises employers on preventive measures, including reviewing employment policies, counseling on disciplinary actions and investigations, negotiating severance and release agreements, and conducting employment practices review.
