Barbra Homier is a member of the general litigation practice group and she focuses her practice exclusively in family law, including divorce, adoption and custody matters. Her extensive family law experience includes handling complex and often contentious divorces involving business interests and unique marital property interests, such as patents.
Barbra is also a family law mediator and collaborative divorce lawyer. Collaborative divorce is a legal process in which couples sign an agreement to achieve a settlement that best meets the needs of both parties and their children without the threat of litigation.
While this process often involves additional professionals such as a neutral financial advisor or family counselor, both parties tend to be more satisfied with the outcome, which can be significantly better than traditional litigation.
Prior to joining Foster Swift, Barbra practiced law at Varnum LLP for nearly 10 years, where she was a partner. She has also held a prestigious internship with the Open Justice Commission of Lansing and an externship with the Honorable Richard Suhrheinrich of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Barbra’s professional activities include membership to the State Bar of Michigan, Michigan Board of Accountancy, Women Lawyers Association of Michigan and International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. She is also involved with the Collaborative Practice Institute of Michigan and is trained as a family law mediator.
Barbra graduated from Michigan State University College of Law, summa cum laudeand received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona.
