Benjamin Harmon focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation. Before joining Alston & Bird, Benjamin served as a law clerk for the Honorable Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts.
He also worked as a law fellow at the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), where he worked with clients on death penalty appeals and authored reports to further reform litigation, helped lead a joint project with Google to create an online platform for digital exploration of EJI’s work covering the history and impact of racial violence in the South, and assisted in drafting pre-trial pleadings resulting in the release of an innocent client following a favorable ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court after 30 years on Alabama’s death row.
Benjamin earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School, graduating cum laude while simultaneously earning a Master of Public Policy. While at Harvard, Benjamin served as a legal intern at the Mecklenburg County Office of the Public Defender, where he tried four bench trials and argued numerous motions.
He also served as a legal intern at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Administration & Finance, where he drafted a legal memorandum outlining the governor’s line-item veto authority, created economic models of tax policy scenarios, and developed tax expenditure performance metrics.
