Brenna M. Spinner represents clients in a diverse range of commercial litigation, including contract disputes, government investigations, public utilities mergers, and antitrust matters. She has represented clients through many phases of litigation, from the filing of a complaint or issuance of an investigative demand to conclusion of the case through settlement or final disposition.

Brenna also has experience engaging in discovery and motions practice, including drafting and responding to discovery requests and investigative demands, managing document collection and production, and drafting and responding to dispositive and non-dispositive motions.

During law school, Brenna was a student attorney for Law Students in Court, where she served as lead counsel on her cases and represented indigent clients facing eviction.

Brenna drafted motions, participated in hearings, prepared a case for trial, and negotiated a favorable settlement for an elderly, disabled client facing homelessness. After her tenure ended, Brenna continued to serve hundreds of pro bono hours with Law Students in Court.

Experience :

  • Won summary judgment in favor of client in a case of first impression in Maryland holding that a successor landlord is not liable under a lease provision providing for payment of brokerage commissions upon tenant renewal that the successor landlord did not expressly assume. The Maryland Court of Special Appeals affirmed on appeal.
  • Participated extensively in representation of Canadian energy company AltaGas Ltd. in its contested application for regulatory approval in Maryland and the District of Columbia of its $9 billion acquisition of Washington Gas Light Co. Both jurisdictions approved the $9 billion acquisition.

Brenna has experience helping clients facing deportation file petitions under the Violence Against Women Act and has authored research memoranda on crimes of violence against women which were used in police and prosecutor trainings.
