Brian Mink

Troutman Sanders LLP

Brian J. Mink’s innovative approach to commercial real estate transactions leverages legal data analytics and emerging technologies to help clients optimize their negotiation strategies and effectively manage contracts over the lifecycle of their transactions.

Brian’s unique and multifaceted skill set empowers his clients to extract insights and generate value from the “data” in their contracts—much in the same way they rely on data to drive decision-making in the rest of their business.

Brian devotes a substantial portion of his practice to providing a data-driven suite of legal services for high-volume and large-scale real estate transactions, including contract automation, contract lifecycle management, user-friendly interactive dashboards that replace paper summaries, and preparation of contract data for Artificial Intelligence and machine learning applications.

Brian has a deep understanding of data analytics and the software platforms that power his clients’ businesses and manage their contracts. He received his Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business and is a frequent speaker on the topics of Artificial Intelligence in the legal industry, contract automation, and contract analytics.

Brian serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board of Data Science Connect, the largest data science organization in the southeastern United States. He is a member of Troutman Sanders’ Innovation Working Group and the firm’s Technology and Information Services Committee.  Brian also serves as an adjunct instructor at the University of Georgia School of Law.

In addition to being fluent in technology and data science, Brian is a practicing commercial real estate attorney with experience representing clients in highly sophisticated transactions.

He has represented developers and users in connection with acquisition, development, and negotiation of tax incentives for some of the largest technology-driven real estate projects in the United States, including colocation and enterprise data centers, high performance computing centers, and IT hubs. He has also represented national retailers in complex, high-volume transactions across dozens of states.

Brian regularly advises developers, real estate investment trusts, joint ventures, and users of real estate on all aspects of land development for a variety of asset types, including mixed use, retail, hotel, restaurant, office, multifamily housing, and industrial.

In his pro bono work, Brian serves as counsel to a community land trust that utilizes innovative public partnership strategies and geographic information systems (GIS) to promote permanently affordable housing for in-place residents in redeveloping areas of in-town Atlanta.
