Bruce D. Haims was a partner with Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and was the head of the firm’s Tax Department from 1993 to 2004. He is currently of counsel to the firm. He provides personal and business tax advice to high-net-worth individuals. Mr. Haims has also handled tax controversies for these clients. Mr. Haims is the author of “‘Incubator’ Pay: A Director’s Guide”, (Director’s Monthly, November 2000), with Alan M. Levine, “Assignment of Income – Has Ferguson Hastened the ‘Ripening’ Process?” (28 The Exempt Organization Tax Review No. 3, June 2000), “The Estate Planner As Transactional Lawyer” (55 N.Y.U. Institute on Federal Taxation, 1997), “A Practitioner’s Guide to the Preparation for and Conduct of a Tax Audit” (53 N.Y.U. Institute on Federal Taxation, Chapter 24, 1995) and “Bankruptcy as a Tax Planning Device: Workouts vs.Chapter 11” (49 N.Y.U. Institute on Federal Taxation, Chapter 23, 1990) and is the co-author of “Restructuring the Overleveraged Company” (48 Tax Notes 91, July 1990), with Ann G. Schaumberger. He has also written and lectured on integrating personal tax planning in business transactions, tax planning for entertainers and executive compensation and lectured at the N.Y.U. Tax Institute on bankruptcy and workouts, and tax audit procedures. Mr. Haims is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the New York State Bar Association.

Mr. Haims joined Debevoise in 1967 and became a partner in 1973. He received his B.S. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1962 and his LL.B. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1965, where he was a member of the Harvard Law Review. Mr. Haims also received an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University in 1972.

Mr. Haims is a director of The Jeffrey Company, the Axe-Houghton Foundation and the After School Arts Program (ASAP) in Washington, CT, as well as a member of the Community Board of New Milford Hospital.
