After growing up in Los Angeles, California, Calvin Y. Shin attended the University of California, Irvine, to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and social behavior. At UC Irvine, Calvin spent his time as a student counselor helping students strengthen their academic and social skills.
In his spare time, Calvin interned for the Asian Business Association of Orange County and contributed to the association’s goal of providing educational seminars and networking opportunities for small business owners. He then spent the next two years after graduating from UC Irvine working as an analyst for a market research company in Encino, California.
Calvin then enrolled in Pepperdine School of Law to pursue a Juris Doctor, where he graduated cum laude, with CALI Awards in various subjects including real estate finance and business reorganizations in bankruptcy.
At Pepperdine, Calvin was active in student organizations such as the Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Korean American Bar Association, and the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association.
As a law student, Calvin participated in a variety of practice areas, such as complying with federal record retention laws for a British-American-owned cruise line, assisting in the prosecution of criminally negligent corporations for the District Attorney’s Office Consumer Protection Division, and practicing in the estate planning and bankruptcy fields with a local boutique law firm in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Calvin is currently an active member of various local and national legal and professional organizations. He hopes to continue his goal of helping clients with their real estate, bankruptcy and estate-planning needs. In addition, he hopes to use his skills and experience to benefit local nonprofit and other charitable organizations.
