An associate in the Litigation section, Cameron Rountree brings substantial trial experience from his work in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. During that time he tried several jury trials in the federal courts of Hampton Roads and investigated cases with federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Drug Enforcement Administration; as well the Virginia State Police and various local law enforcement agencies.

Cameron’s work at the U.S. Attorney’s Office provided him an added perspective on the way the Eastern District functions. His prosecutorial work built upon a foundational experience as a law clerk to the Honorable Tommy E. Miller, U.S. Magistrate Judge.

At Williams Mullen, Cameron has focused his practice on commercial and general litigation and white collar investigations. In particular, he has represented clients in business ownership disputes, construction litigation, business tort and contract litigation, federal criminal defense and firearms industry practice. He also has extensive experience in the areas of export controls and ITAR compliance, advising his clients on the regulations involved with doing business overseas and helping to ensure compliance.

In June of 2015, Cameron graduated with distinction from the Naval War College, earning a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. This advanced degree, coupled with his experience as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy and his prosecutorial experience from his work in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, gives him a valuable perspective when advising on export controls regulations and compliance. He understands the bigger picture of trade laws and the reasoning behind them, rather than just knowing the letter of the law.

In addition to his M.A. from the Naval War College, Cameron also earned a Juris Doctor from the William and Mary School of Law, where he served as articles editor of the William and Mary Bill of Rights Journal. He earned his B.A. from the University of Virginia, where he double majored in Government (American Politics) and Spanish. Prior to attending law school, Cameron was a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy, deploying from east and west coast-based ships.

Cameron is an active member of the United States Navy Reserve. From March 2016 to March 2017, Cameron served as the Director of Future Operations and Crisis Action Planning for the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, where his command provided the initial Department of Defense response to a State Department request for diplomatic security assistance in Juba, South Sudan. His efforts earned him the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Joint Service Achievement Medal among other unit and campaign awards.
