
Caroline Coates is a senior associate with a practice devoted to complex securities enforcement matters. She has represented corporations, financial institutions, investment advisors, and other individuals in investigations and enforcement proceedings before the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, FINRA, State Attorneys General, and other agencies and self-regulatory organizations.
Ms. Coates also has experience representing clients in congressional investigations. Ms. Coates maintains an active pro bono practice, with an emphasis on children’s law issues. In addition to her work on abuse, neglect, custody, and adoption cases, Ms. Coates leads and directs the firm’s tutoring program in partnership with Maya Angelou Public Charter School.
While attending law school, Ms. Coates worked as a guardian ad litem in the Durham County Court system in North Carolina—advocating for abused and neglected children in family court—and as a law clerk in the Homicide Section at the US Attorney’s Office in Washington DC.
