Cary began his legal career as a Deputy Public Defender with the Maricopa County Public Defenders Office in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, in 1995 following his graduation from law school at nearby Arizona State. Cary represented indigent clients accused of Felony and Misdemeanor offenses including, but not limited to: Aggravated DUI, DUI, Vehicular Manslaughter, Assault, Substance Abuse Crimes, Sex Crimes, and Probation Violation Matters.
In 1998, Cary moved on to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco, California as a Staff Attorney. Cary drafted Memorandum Opinions and presented oral arguments on Criminal and Immigration Appeals for review by a three Judge panel on a monthly basis.
In 1999, Cary returned to the Valley of the Sun where he began work as an Associate Attorney for the Phoenix Law Firm of Streich Lang, P.A. (Now Quarles Brady, L.L.P.) Cary worked in the White Collar Criminal Division of the Firm where he represented individuals and corporations accused of criminal offenses in both Federal and State Courts.
In 2000, Cary began work as a Deputy County Attorney in the Civil Division of the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office in downtown Phoenix. Cary represented and defended Maricopa County employees in various civil matters in both Federal and State Courts.
In 2002, Cary opened The Law Office of Cary L. Lackey, P.C. to provide individuals with quality legal representation in the Criminal, Administrative, and Civil Law areas.
