Celine Chan is an associate in the Firm’s Employment Litigation practice group. Ms. Chan has worked on a wide range of matters, including claims under the anti-discrimination laws and ERISA. She also has experience performing due diligence in the context of corporate transactions, preparing motions filed in bankruptcy proceedings, and providing advice relating to labor workforce issues.
Ms. Chan is part of the team defending Merrill Lynch in the race discrimination class action, McReynolds v. Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Inc., and also has been participating in the defense of UnitedHealth Group in a putative class action filed by a participant in a self-funded health plan sponsored by AllianceBernstein L.P. alleging defendants misapplied her plan’s requirements for coordination of her benefits with Medicare.
Ms. Chan also maintains an active pro bono practice, where she has provided employment-related counseling to non-profit corporations, including the Central Park Conservancy, and represented Bravo Volunteer Ambulance Corporation before the New York State Division of Human Rights.
Prior to joining Weil, Ms. Chan worked as a Special Assistant Corporation Counsel at the New York City Law Department, where she represented the City of New York and its agencies in federal and state actions involving challenges to the city’s employment practices, and allegations of constitutional and statutory violations.
Ms. Chan received her B.A. from Cornell University in 2007, and her J.D., magna cum laude, from Brooklyn Law School in 2010. During law school, Ms. Chan was an associate managing editor of the Brooklyn Law Review and served on the Executive Board of the Moot Court Honor Society. Ms. Chan was also a summer intern to Magistrate Judge Michael H. Dolinger in the United States District Court of the Southern District of New York in 2008.
