Charles Carter Lee

Charles Carter Lee’s practice concentrates on business litigation, medical malpractice defense, and general civil litigation. He handles a wide range of cases involving construction, personal injury, utilities, and regulatory law. Carter was recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in 2014 and 2015.

A native of Franklin County, Va., Carter enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating from Washington and Lee University, earned his commission through Officer Candidate School, and spent five years on active duty before going to law school at the University of Richmond.

In addition to his law degree, Carter has completed the Army’s Judge Advocate Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, and the Government Contract Attorney’s course at the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School at the University of Virginia.

Carter is currently a Major in the Virginia Army National Guard, and serves as the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for the 29th Infantry Division.

After he joined Woods Rogers in 2009, Carter’s National Guard unit was called for deployment in Afghanistan, where he was an operational law attorney and assisted in the prosecution of insurgents.

In 2013, Woods Rogers received an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award in connection with Carter’s service. Carter deployed again in 2015-16 where he served as the Chief of Military Justice for a formation of over 12,000 soldiers.

Currently, Carter serves on the North Cross Alumni Board and on the Board of Directors of Blue Ridge Legal Services. Previously, Carter served on the Board of Directors for the Roanoke Valley SPCA and for Trust House, a Roanoke, Va., non-profit focused on support to homeless individuals, families, and veterans experiencing crisis.
