Charles Wakefield is a senior associate with Alston & Bird’s State & Local Tax Group, focusing his practice on complex multistate state tax controversies and transactions. Charles has significant experience representing clients in administrative and judicial appeals involving multistate income, franchise and sales/use tax issues, including nexus, apportionment, business/nonbusiness income, P.L. 86-272 and sales/use taxability and sourcing of digital goods and services. His practice includes advising clients on corporate acquisitions, dispositions and restructuring.
Charles received his LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University and his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, where he served as articles editor of the Pittsburgh Tax Review. He received his B.A. in English, with honors, from the University of California, Berkeley.
