Charlotte N. Sweeney is a Colorado native and founding member of the firm Sweeney & Bechtold, LLC. She received her degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Denver College of Law in 1995, where she graduated summa cum laude as the National Association of Women Lawyers Outstanding Graduate.
From the very start of her career, Charlotte has been devoted to the representation of employees in employment matters.
She represents both private and federal sector employees in matters of discrimination, retaliation, harassment, whistleblower claims, wrongful discharge, contractual disputes, and other federal and state law claims related to all phases of the employment relationship.
Charlotte is a frequent lecturer regarding employment law and employment litigation, and has been retained as an expert witness in several cases.
Charlotte has been named as one of The Best Lawyers in America in the practice areas of Employment Law–Individuals and Litigation–Labor and Employment.
She has been recognized as a Colorado Super Lawyer in the area of Employment Law, an honor limited to five percent of Colorado attorneys, every year since the program’s inception in 2005.
Charlotte has been recognized as one of the Top 50 female attorneys in Colorado and the Benchmark Plaintiff Top 150 Women in Litigation nationwide.
In 2009, she was honored as a Fellow of the Colorado Bar Foundation, an honor limited to five percent of Colorado lawyers, for “outstanding dedication to the welfare of the community, the traditions of the profession and the maintenance and advancement of the objectives of the Colorado Bar Association.”
Charlotte served as the CoChair of the Colorado Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Section from 20072009.
Since 2003, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Plaintiff Employment Lawyers Association (PELA), and formerly served as President of PELA in 2005 and 2006. She is the 2014 PresidentElect of the Faculty of Federal Advocates and the Chair of the FFA Committee charged with drafting Model Employment Law Jury Instructions.
She is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Colorado Women’s Bar Association, the Colorado Plaintiff Employment Lawyers Association, and the National Employment Lawyers Association.
