John C. (“Chris”) Chamberlain is an associate in the international trade practice. Mr. Chamberlain’s practice focuses on U.S. law and policy affecting international trade and business.Earlier in his career, Mr. Chamberlain served as a program analyst in the Office of Audits at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of the Inspector General. His audit experience includes immigration, procurement, transportation, and grants. He was also the president and co-founder of DHS Emerging Leaders.

Mr. Chamberlain was a member of Akin Gump’s 2015 summer associate class and a Pro Bono Scholar in 2014. Prior to returning to the firm, Mr. Chamberlain served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Margaret A. Ryan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.Mr. Chamberlain received his J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center. He was an executive board member of the American Criminal Law Review and editor-in-chief of the Annual Survey of White Collar Crime. During law school, he worked in a variety of public service settings, including the chambers of the Honorable Amy Berman Jackson of the U.S. District Court, District of Columbia, the Appellate Unit of the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia and the Judiciary staff of Senator Patrick Leahy.

Mr. Chamberlain also served as a teaching assistant for the inaugural offerings of the courses “Computer Programming for Lawyers” and “Emerging Law Governing Digital Information,” and as a research assistant at the Center on Privacy and Technology. Mr. Chamberlain earned his B.A., maxima cum laude, from La Salle University, where he was a member of the honors program and studied philosophy, computer science, and business.Licensed to practice in Virginia only and under the supervision of the partners of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.
