Chris Newberg focuses his practice on civil litigation and strategic planning for entertainers and emerging businesses. When it comes to litigation, Chris represents both plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of disputes involving contracts, insurance claims, personal injury, real estate, and employment.
Chris is licensed to practice in federal court and works on a considerable amount of cases involving federal law. Specifically, Chris devotes much of his practice to helping underpaid and misclassified employees collect back wages from employers under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Beyond litigation, Chris also works with individuals and businesses in the fields of art, entertainment, advertising, communications, digital media, cyberspace, emerging technologies, and intellectual property creation. His approach to the practice of law accounts for changing trends in business ownership, technological development, and protection into the future. With entrepreneurial experience himself, Chris understands both the legal and practical aspects of business.
He also has considerable experience in the entertainment industry, having represented and negotiated deals with bands, actors, record labels, publishing companies, production companies, distributors and more. Chris is a graduate and devoted fan of Michigan State University. After MSU, he received his Juris Doctorate from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Grand Rapids, MI. As a West Michigan native, Chris is an avid great-lakes boater and fisherman. Chris is also a music fanatic.
He currently plays guitar, tours and records the country band, Gunnar & the Grizzly Boys. His experience in the music industry has not only provided him with an outlet for creative expression, but it has also given him an inside view of the entertainment business.
