Christine M. Baker is a Special Counsel in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the firm’s San Diego (Del Mar) office. Christine concentrates her practice* on trademark prosecution and other aspects of trademark law. She has extensive experience searching and analyzing trademarks and service marks and managing the worldwide and domestic trademark portfolios of clients in a wide variety of fields, such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, software, jewelry, skincare and beauty, fitness, education, and financial products and services.
In addition, Christine assists clients in protecting their trademarks, counsels clients on proper trademark usage, conducts due diligence on trademark portfolios and helps clients acquire domain names and marks.
Christine counsels clients of all sizes and is an active participant in the firm’s pro bono program, representing clients such as the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organizations in the United States and Community Servings, a not-for-profit food and nutrition program serving the critically ill and their families in Massachusetts with their trademark matters.
She was an attorney at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Department of Commerce. While at the USPTO, Christine conducted ex parte examinations on thousands of trademark and service mark applications, recommended marks for publication and registration, drafted office actions and appeal briefs, and reviewed the work product and fielded the questions of new and less-seasoned examining attorneys.
She specialized in applications pertaining to skincare products and cosmetics, sporting equipment, toys, publications, and all types of services, including health and beauty, spa, educational, financial, and business services.
In addition to her duties as an examining attorney, Christine served as an EEO counselor for the USPTO’s Office of Civil Rights. In this position, she consulted with USPTO employees concerning allegations of discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, or disability; conducted informal fact-finding inquiries; assisted parties in achieving resolutions to their disputes; and drafted reports on counseling activities.
