Christopher Franich counsels clients of all sizes with domestic and international intellectual property needs across a variety of technologies, including medical devices; computing, mechanical, electro-mechanical, biomechanical and structural systems; medical imaging; software; business methods; composite structures; consumer goods; and design patents.
Christopher represents clients, including solo inventors, startups, technology transfer offices and up to Fortune 500, in developing and implementing cohesive intellectual property strategies in proceedings before the USPTO, the PTAB and federal courts.
In this respect, Christopher has experience with patent and trademark prosecution, litigation, due diligence, searches, opinions, licensing, alternative dispute resolution and trademark watches.
Christopher has professional experience as a mechanical engineer working with systems integration and design, renewable energy, and material sciences. During law school, Christopher earned several awards for academic excellence, including CALI Excellence for the Future Awards and a Dean’s Certificate of Achievement.
Christopher earned a B.S. in aerospace engineering from the University of California, San Diego. As an undergraduate, he worked with a team of graduate and undergraduate students to develop an unmanned atmospheric research aircraft in conjunction with NASA, the National Science Foundation and Scripps.
After graduation, Christopher worked as a mechanical engineer with a large aerospace manufacturer developing the next generation of unmanned air vehicles. He also served in the Peace Corps in Honduras as a civil engineer designing and implementing water systems and renewable energy systems.
Representative Matters :
- Representing a startup water ride company in high-stakes matters, in district court and before CAFC and the PTAB, involving patent infringement, trade secrets and California employment law.
- Representing and guiding a medical device company in matters before U.S. and international patent offices pre- and post-FDA approval.
- Represented a medical device company in a high-stakes patent infringement matter concerning a significant client product. Christopher developed a strategy that caused a swift settlement between the parties.
