
Christopher F. Petillo assists clients with issues facing insurers in litigation concerning high-face value life insurance, privacy issues facing long-term care insurers, general liability coverage, and cyber liability.
Chris assists life carriers in litigation concerning broker misconduct involving sophisticated tax avoidance and rebating schemes, fraud and misrepresentation, lapse, civil RICO, and secondary market issues such as stranger-originated life insurance and non-recourse premium financing.
Chris also has experience representing annuity owners and issuers in connection with the transfer of structured settlement payment rights, including opposing such transfers at the trial and appellate level. Issues related to privacy and cyber security are a significant part of Chris’s long-term care insurance and insurance coverage practice.
Chris assists clients by addressing breach related issues and developing and implementing privacy and security compliance plans that meet applicable federal and state standards (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, HIPAA, HITECH, and state breach notification statutes, among others), in connection with identifying and assessing client’s data use to strengthen compliance protocols.
Prior to joining Drinker Biddle, Chris represented insurers in a variety of coverage litigation primarily relating to environmental claims and emerging risks under GL policies. He also assisted clients with allocation issues, lost policies, construction defect claims, and document retention issues.
While in law school, Chris served as an extern to the Honorable Michael M. Baylson at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
