Craig P. Chick is a public affairs director with Foley & Lardner LLP. Prior to Foley, he was a former senior advisor to Speaker Joe Straus on issues impacting business, energy, and government efficiency. Prior to working in the speaker’s office, Craig spent over 15 years as a senior advisor to Texas House and Senate members such as Kyle Janek and Fred Bosse.
Having been involved in Texas politics for over 23 years, Craig has advised members of the House and Senate on political discourse involving alcohol, economic development, electric generation and transmission, employment, environmental regulation, housing, immigration, pharmaceuticals, property rights, real estate, tax, and transportation. He has also represented the Texas Association of REALTORS as the organization’s director of political affairs.
Craig has extensive experience in the sunset advisory process, drafting legislation, authoring interim reports, and directing political campaigns. He is known as one of the most honest voices in Texas politics and is well regarded by republicans and democrats. Craig is unique among legislative consultants because of his rare combination of knowledge of the internal and parliamentary procedures of both the House and Senate.
His relationships and reputation combined with his procedural experience are at the core of what differentiates him. In 2013, Craig was recognized as a “rising star” on the Texas Lobby Power Rankingspublished by veteran capitol reporter, Mike Hailey, at CapitolInside.com. In 2017, Craig rose to the rank of 37th on the list.
Over his 23 years in Texas politics, Craig has been engaged in 12 regular and 12 special sessions of the Texas Legislature. He has experience in both chambers of the Texas Legislature, having worked for House and Senate offices and committees. He has authored three published legislative interim committee reports on a variety of issues that range from land use to tort litigation.
