Craig R. Haughton is a member of the firm’s Government Investigations and White Collar Litigation practice group, and was formally a member of the firm’s Business and Securities Litigation practice group. His practice focuses on government and securities regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings, internal investigations, and complex civil litigation.
Craig has represented various Fortune 100 and 500 financial institutions and other business entities in several state, federal district and appellate courts, as well as arbitrations through the AAA and FINRA.
His litigation experience includes financial services litigation, class actions, regulatory enforcement, fiduciary matters, contract disputes, business torts, intellectual property disputes, representation of governmental and private organizations in land use and zoning litigation, government procurement and construction disputes, and False Claims Act litigation.
Craig is member of the firm’s appeals and issues team, and has successfully argued multiple cases in state and federal appellate courts. Prior to McGuireWoods LLP, Craig was a law clerk to the Honorable Glenn T. Harrell, Jr. of the Maryland Court of Appeals from 2006 to 2007.
Craig received his law degree at the University of Baltimore, summa cum laude, and was a member of the Heiusler Honor Society. He was the business editor of the University of Baltimore Law Review. Craig is currently pursuing an L.L.M. in Securities and Financial Regulation from Georgetown University.
EXPERIENCE :
- Representation of banking and lending institutions in various litigation and regulatory matters, ranging from allegations of fraud and violations of consumer protection statutes, foreclosure and receivership proceedings, and land use disputes pertaining to bank branch construction.
- Representation of financial institutions and businesses in various commercial litigation, creditor’s rights, and bankruptcy disputes.
- Nationwide representation of a national bank’s wealth management subsidiary in fiduciary litigation and pre-litigation resolution matters.
- Represented Fortune 100 subcontractor in offensive litigation against prime contractor for improper termination of subcontract agreement arising out of public procurement in Maryland.
- Represented subcontractor in various aspects of a dispute with a general contractor, land owner, and materials suppliers pertaining to a major construction project in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
- Represented a computer manufacturer in a false claims action in which it was alleged that major computer manufacturers violated provisions of the Buy American statute.
