Curtis Bennett Ross has a wide variety of experience and accomplishments in financial and child related issues. The combination of background in both financial and child related issues helps to differentiate him from the typical divorce practitioner based upon his level of knowledge and experience.
Curtis Bennett Ross has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1977. He taught basic financial accounting and federal income taxation at the University of Illinois College of Commerce in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois while still in law school. After becoming a Certified Public Accountant, Ross worked for Arthur Andersen & Co. as part of their tax staff. He is currently Chair of the Finance Committee for the Assembly of the Illinois State Bar Association, which helps to manage the finances for the Illinois State Bar Association. Ross presented the budget to the most recent Assembly for the 2014-2015 year of the Illinois State Bar Association.
Curtis Bennett Ross has been appointed by six different presidents of the Illinois State Bar Association to membership on the Family Law Section Council. The members of the Family Law Section Council work to help develop policy for the Illinois State Bar Association, teach lawyers to improve their legal skills and knowledge and review proposed laws and help develop proposed laws for the State of Illinois.
Ross served on the Maintenance Sub-Committee which helped to draft Illinois’ new maintenance statute. The Decalogue Society of Lawyers elected Curtis Bennett Ross to be President for the 2016-2017 year. He is a member of its Executive Board of Trustees to help manage that bar association. Ross was previously First Vice-President, Second Vice-President and Treasurer of the Decalogue Society of Lawyers.
The Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois has approved Curtis Bennett Ross as a Child Representative for approximately twenty years. Judges in Cook County have appointed Ross to represent children in the role of Child Representative and Guardian-Ad Litem to represent children involved in custody, visitation and choice of education disputes and as Receiver and Financial Expert in divorce cases.
