Daniel F. Molony litigates personal injury, products liability and commercial claims in state and federal courts throughout Florida.
Before joining Shook, Dan gained a unique perspective on representing businesses while serving as vice-president and general counsel for a major ceiling-fan import and retail business. After helping grow the company from 20 to 132 locations, Dan sold his ownership interest and returned to private practice where he primarily handled commercial litigation at Shackleford, Farrior, Stallings & Evans in Tampa.
He then opened Shook’s Tampa office, where he served as Managing Partner from 2000 to 2018. He initially managed a Fen-Phen litigation docket comprising more than 250 claims in Florida and has since focused on products liability work involving chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and cigarette products.
In his practice, Dan has acted as lead trial counsel for DuPont, Philip Morris USA Inc., and Lorillard Tobacco Co. in addition to representing other firm clients in the manufacturing, consumer goods and retail industries.
His recent significant trials have included a defense verdict in a wrongful death case brought by three, minor dependents against an industrial door manufacturer in federal court.
Dan also prevailed recently in a business dispute between a “big box” retailer and an adjacent storage facility that resulted in the plaintiff paying $350,000 in attorney’s fees and costs incurred by Dan’s “big box” client in successfully defending the action.
Dan also served as lead trial counsel for Lorillard in an Engle-Progeny trial in which the jury rendered a final verdict absolving defendants of responsibility for plaintiff’s wrongful death claim. Dan has also successfully resolved Broin and other Engle-Progeny cases throughout Florida.
