David Stewart Fisher is attorney of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP. David joined the firm in 2010 and became senior attorney in 2019. David Fisher’s practice focuses on U.S. tax matters, with an emphasis on capital markets, financial products and cross-border tax planning.
In particular, he has assisted various financial institutions and other clients with U.S. tax analysis of complex financing transactions and equity and nonequity derivatives, covering issues such as beneficial ownership, debt vs. equity characterization, and withholding risk. Since 2012, David has headed the firm’s team of associates that regularly assist financial institutions with tax-related structuring of mortgage-backed securities.
