David R. Lefebvre leverages his engineering industry experience and patent law experience to best serve clients’ intellectual property needs. He focuses his practice on client counseling, patent prosecution, post-grant practice, and patent litigation.
David leads patent prosecution matters for established and developing companies in diverse industries and technologies. He is involved in all phases of client counseling and portfolio development.
David’s patent office practice includes drafting applications, prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications, and strategic portfolio counseling. With more than five years of patent experience, he has assisted in prosecuting hundreds of patent applications.
In addition to developing and executing comprehensive patent procurement strategies, David evaluates patent portfolios for mergers, acquisitions, and investment opportunities.
He has considerable experience preparing freedom-to-operate opinions, assessing competitive patent landscapes, and providing patentability, validity, noninfringement, and clearance opinions.
David’s litigation practice has primarily focused on cases involving medical devices and printing technology. For these cases he has assisted with various phases of litigation, including discovery efforts, motion practice, and trial preparation.
Prior to joining Finnegan in Boston, David worked as a field service engineer for Christ Water Technologies Americas, LLC and Koch Membrane System, Inc. (KMS). He also held the position of field service supervisor at KMS, a leading developer of process technology membrane solutions.
In these roles, David executed the startup and commissioning of new industrial and commercial automated fluid treatment systems. His experience allowed him to utilize various technologies, including membrane filtration, ion exchange, electrodeionization, evaporation, and degasification.
