Debora Hoehne

Debora Hoehne is a senior associate in the Business, Finance & Restructuring department of Weil, Gotshal & Manges. Ms. Hoehne represents debtors, creditors, lenders, equity interest holders, and acquirers of assets in all aspects of distressed and insolvency situations.

Her experience includes a broad range of transactional and litigation matters across a variety of industries, including insurance, retail, oil & gas services, manufacturing, real estate, telecommunications, power generation, and professional services.

Her debtor representations include Blockbuster, Advanta Corp., LandSource Communities Development LLC, and GulfMark Offshore, Inc. She also has been involved in representing creditors in chapter 9 proceedings, including Financial Guaranty Insurance Company (FGIC) in the City of Detroit’s chapter 9 case in connection with FGIC’s credit enhancement of pension obligation certificates of participation with respect to the City of Detroit.

Ms. Hoehne has significant experience with state court insurance proceedings and restructuring work in the financial guaranty insurance arena, including representing the Superintendent of Financial Services of the State of New York, as Rehabilitator of FGIC and as Liquidator of Health Republic Insurance of New York, Corp., and Ambac Assurance Corporation in the state court rehabilitation of its Segregated Account.

Ms. Hoehne currently represents National Public Finance Guarantee Corporation in connection with the Title III case for the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority.

Ms. Hoehne maintains an active pro bono practice. She was awarded the Sanctuary for Families Above and Beyond Pro Bono Achievement Award for her trial court and appellate advocacy on behalf of a domestic violence victim. Recently, she successfully represented a domestic violence victim in obtaining release on parole.

For several months each year, Ms. Hoehne coaches a high school mock trial team from Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn to prepare them to compete in the Justice Resource Center’s annual moot court competition.

Ms. Hoehne has also coached a team for the Justice Resource Center’s international moot court competition. She is a regular contributor to the Weil Bankruptcy Blog.

Ms. Hoehne joined Weil as a summer associate in 2006. She clerked for the Honorable Peter K. Leisure in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York during the 2008-2009 court term.

Ms. Hoehne received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Occidental College and completed post-graduate studies in Italy on a Fulbright Scholarship. She graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from Fordham University School of Law, where she was Senior Articles Editor of the Fordham Law Review.
