Debra came to Tully Rinckey PLLC with a vast amount of experience practicing family and matrimonial law. Prior to joining the team, Debra was a solo-practitioner and represented clients in family court and state supreme court on issues such as custody and parenting time, child support, grandparent visitation, matrimonial matters and Article 81 guardianship cases as Court Evaluator. Through the ownership of her own practice, Debra had the opportunity to become well-versed in an array of topics relating to family and matrimonial law.
Prior to that, Debra worked as an associate at a law firm, where she gained experience representing clients in court on family law matters, including orders of protection, child support, child custody and parenting time. Debra also volunteered for a local veterans group on Long Island, called “Angels for Warriors,” where she represented veterans in matrimonial and family court matters. Many of these veterans suffered from PTSD.
Debra gained courtroom experience by acting as a court-appointed special advocate for family court and state supreme court. In this position, Debra was responsible for interviewing and evaluating children under the care of Child Protective Services or in foster care, as well as monitoring adults who were in need of a guardian in the only integrated guardianship part in the State of New York.
Debra obtained her Juris Doctor from the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center. While in law school, Debra received many honors and awards, including the CALI Academic Excellence Awards in the Rights of Children, Family Law and The Family Law Clinic, and she was actively involved in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
Debra was also awarded a Public Interest Fellowship in the summer of 2006 to represent clients who suffered from HIV and were facing a multitude of legal issues. As an undergraduate, Debra attended Stony Brook University, where she graduated cum laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
