Derek Julio also serves as the General Counsel at Vavani Productions and takes care of all legal aspects of its production activities such as financing, rights clearance, production, distribution, etc. He also counsels the company on different business opportunities as well as manages their intellectual property concerns.
He volunteers as the President of the association called Utah Lawyers For Arts and provides reduced-costs legal help in areas such as contracts, copyrights, licensing, non-profit management, etc.
He is a Planning Committee Member of the Lightspark Media Summit at the Lightspark Foundation and helps in managing its legal affairs as well as key areas of planning. He sits as the Vice Chair of the Entertainment Law Section of the Utah State Bar.
He is on the Steering Committee of the Utah Music Association and a member of Salt Lake County Bar Association, Utah State Bar Association, Utah Association for Justice, Association of Independent Music Publishers, The California Copyright Conference, National Association of Record Industry Professionals, and the Art and Media Law Alliance.
He attended the University of Utah and obtained his B.A. and B.S. in Political Science and International Studies in 2011. He was a member of the Art & Media Law Alliance, The Legal Reels, Student Intellectual Property Law Association, and Outlaws while studying there.
He joined the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah and completed his Juris Doctor degree in 2015 while receiving Pro Bono Certificate of Service. He became a member of several societies while studying law. He received the Excellence for the Future Award for Intellectual Property Licensing from CALI in 2014.
While studying law, he served as an Action Sports and Olympics Media Team Intern at the Wasserman Media Group, a Legal Intern Reynolds & Associates and later as a Law Clerk at Winder & Counsel, PC.
He passed the bar exam and earned the license to practice law in the state of Utah in 2015. After obtaining his lawyer’s license, he served as an associate with the same law firm till 2016. He joined the Breglio Law Office and served there till 2017.
Derek C. Julio went on to obtain an MBA in Business Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services from David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah in 2019.
