Derek Ulmer

Derek Karl Ulmer is an Associate Attorney in the Sacramento Office. He has been with the firm since August, 2017.

Mr. Ulmer was born and raised in Lodi, California, a mid-sized city located 40 miles south of Sacramento, right in the heart of the Central Valley. Upon graduating high school, he opened his own construction business and began subcontracting and bidding on school improvement projects all over the state.

Over the next ten years he worked in various construction fields until 2008 when he changed course and decided to pursue an education. He attended California State University in Sacramento and obtained a B.A. in English, graduating with Honors.

During his undergraduate education, Mr. Ulmer realized he wanted to pursue a career in law, so after graduating from CSUS, he decided to attend McGeorge School of Law, located in Sacramento.

While attending McGeorge, Mr. Ulmer gained practical knowledge serving as Judicial Law Clerk for Chief Judge Ronald Sargis in the Eastern District of California, and working as a law clerk for the Law Office of Erik Roper during the summer of 2015, and as a law clerk for Radoslovich Parker Turner PC during the summer of 2016. Additionally, during law school, Mr. Ulmer volunteered as a student counselor at the Center for Workers Rights.

Mr. Ulmer’s accolades while attending McGeorge Law School include 1L Mock Trial Finalist, Witkin Award winner, President of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Club, President of Legal Music Society, Community Outreach Director of Public Legal Services Society, Student Bar Association Class Representative, and student member of Anthony M. Kennedy Inn of Court.
