Donald Fay Pierce

Donald F. Pierce is Of Counsel at Butler Pappas. He devotes his practice to general defense matters, third party liability coverage matters, employment law, and products liability defense.

He has extensive litigation experience in class actions and multiparty matters having defended asbestos and chemical manufacturers, manufacturers of aircraft, water heaters and other products, and multiple defendant direct actions against insurance companies.

For a period of over 20 years he served as National Product Defense Trial Counsel for the majority of the hydraulic crane industry defending “two block” cases and other unusual accidents involving extendable hydraulic boom equipment and other heavy equipment throughout the United States.

He has tried cases as lead defense counsel in the states of Florida, Mississippi, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, and Pennsylvania and has participated as lead defense counsel in cases in Maine, New Hampshire, Virginia, Tennessee, Wyoming, Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, and California.

Donald is a member of the Defense Research Institute and served as President and Chairman from 1987 to 1988. He is also a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, Trial Attorneys of America, Products Liability Advisory Committee, and the International Association of Defense Counsel where he served as Director of its Trial Academy from 1983 to 1984.

He was an original member and past President (1975-1976) of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, and was a founding member of the Lawyers for Civil Justice. For a number of years he was the Regional Chair of the annual meeting of the Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and Mississippi Defense Lawyers Associations.

In the course of participating in those organizations, Donald has written extensively in all of their publications, and others, has spoken to numerous defense groups throughout the country and has been a spokesman for the organized defense bar to regional and national media organizations.

Donald is a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Farrah Order of Jurisprudence, Order of the Coif, Phi Alpha Delta and Omicron Delta Kappa.
