Donovan Lloyd Powell focuses his practice on all aspects of commercial real estate. His practice has a particular emphasis on representing institutional real estate investors, real estate investment trusts, and companies in the acquisition, disposition and financing of office, residential and industrial assets throughout the United States. Donovan also has experience representing landlords in drafting and negotiating real estate leases for commercial properties.
Before joining DLA Piper, Donovan clerked at the Massachusetts Trial Court – Land Court Department for the Honorable Alexander H. Sands, III. Donovan devotes part of his practice to the representation of pro bono clients, partnering with non–profit organizations to provide legal assistance to disabled veterans, as well as providing mentoring and tutoring services to students from low income backgrounds in the Greater Boston Area.

After graduating from the University of Virginia, Donovan worked as a management consultant for Dynamics Research Corporation. Staffed primarily to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) information security contracts, Donovan ensured department wide compliance with the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) and conducted in depth an analysis of DHS’s incident response processes at both the component and enterprise levels.
