Dr. Xiaofan (Frank) Yang is an associate in the San Diego office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where his practice is focused on intellectual property strategic counseling, patent prosecution, and due diligence. His intellectual property counseling work includes competitive analyses, patentability analyses, freedom-to-operate analyses, and non-infringement and validity analyses.
Frank has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in the U.S. and other countries and territories, including Europe, China, Japan, Brazil, Russia/Eurasia, Canada, India, Mexico, South Korea, and Australia, building up patent estates for his clients with his extensive knowledge and experience in the patent laws of multiple jurisdictions.
He has completed IP due diligence for license agreements, structured financings, mergers and acquisitions, and IPOs. He also has experience drafting and negotiating S-1 registration statements, underwriting agreements, 10-K, and 10-Q statements. Frank represents a wide range of companies, including biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device, and medical diagnostic companies.
Before joining Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, Frank worked as a patent agent/attorney for more than five years at an IP boutique firm in Chicago, where he gained wide-ranging and in-depth experience and expertise in patent prosecution and counseling in chemical formulation, medical device, nanotechnology, and green technology.
Prior to attending law school, Frank worked as a medicinal chemist for Solvay Organics GmbH and Bayer Pharmaceuticals for four years. Frank is a co-awardee of the 2001 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award (academic) for his work and contributions to the development of environmentally friendly chemical processes. He is fluent in Chinese (native speaker).
