Edward Gaus’s practice includes a wide range of topics, including product liability, pharmaceuticals, automotive and data security and privacy. During his time at Shook, Edd has served on several successful trial teams and represented a diverse set of clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies, tenants and California inmates alleging Eighth Amendment violations.
Most recently, Edd served on a trial team in rural Alaska and contributed to a defense verdict in Hunter v. PMUSA. Edd has also participated in several successful mediations and settlement conferences and uses a calm and thoughtful demeanor to put his clients in the best possible position for success.
Edd has a deep commitment to pro bono work and has volunteered a significant portion of his time to assisting pro se plaintiffs and underprivileged tenants facing eviction. Edd enjoys digging deep into the facts of a case in order to fashion the best defense for his clients.
At trial, Edd has prepared cross-examinations of fact and expert witnesses and has served as lead trial counsel for two federal trials in the Eastern District of California.
Edd has practiced in both federal and state court and specializes in interstate discovery procedures and expert witness development.
During law school, Edd served on the San Francisco University Law Review staff and interned at the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Port Au Prince, Haiti.
While in Haiti, Edd worked on documenting human rights and constitutional violations in the internally displaced person camps following the 2010 earthquake.
Edd received CALI Excellence for the Future Awards for Legal Writing and Research and Criminal Procedure.
Outside of work, Edd is an active member of the San Francisco community. Edd is a native of the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco and devotes a significant amount of time to volunteer activities.
Edd is an active mentor to law students at his alma mater and is involved with fundraising efforts for the ICA Cristo Rey Academy, an all-girls high school in San Francisco devoted to serving underprivileged families in the Bay Area.
Edd is also a member of the ABA Mass Torts committee and has participated in roundtable discussions on topics such as mock jury exercises and pro bono work.
