Elchonon P. Istrin, an associate in Venable’s Tax and Wealth Planning Practice in the Los Angeles office, focuses on estate planning, business transactions tax, and charitable giving.
Prior to joining Venable, Elie worked as a personal financial services associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, where he advised high net worth individuals and families with their tax planning goals and facilitated the transfer of their assets.
He performed research on the funding of various trusts established as a result of a spouse’s passing to allow gifting to children and grandchildren in a tax favorable manner and advised the client on benefits and costs of a GRAT or a sale to an intentionally defective grantor trust as a means for transferring stock in a closely held corporation. He also advised clients on the best method to gift charitable donation based on their individual circumstances.
Earlier in his career, Elie worked as an extern for Bet Tzedek Legal Services, where he assisted attorneys in Bet Tzedek’s Low Income Tax Controversy Clinic with client intake, researching legal issues, and drafting memorandums for upcoming cases.
He also served as an extern in the Office of Chief Counsel at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), where he researched legal issues for upcoming cases, assisted in discovery requests, and drafted portions of motions that were filed within the United States Tax Courts. Elie also clerked for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
