Ms. Elizabeth D. Schrero is a partner in the Litigation Department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP and has been a litigator for more than 36 years, focusing on real estate and commercial litigation. Ms. Schrero is national co-chair of the Real Estate Litigation Group. She has a broad range of litigation experience in the state, federal, and bankruptcy courts and administrative agencies, as well as alternate dispute resolution forums.
Ms. Schrero utilizes her litigation experience and expertise as she counsels clients to resolve potential disputes and with regard to strategic business and operational decisions. Ms. Schrero’s extensive experience includes her recent success in entirely defeating a multi-million dollar damages claim against her client, after more than seven years of contentious litigation, a finding of liability and an eight-day causation and damages hearing with fifteen witnesses.
Ms. Schrero’s real estate litigation experience includes complex commercial lease disputes, contract deposit and other acquisition-related disputes, mechanic’s lien and other construction-related litigation, commercial and residential cooperative corporation and condominium disputes (such as election and governance disputes, breach of fiduciary duty and other claims between Boards and owners), foreclosure proceedings, high-end residential landlord/tenant matters, and real estate brokerage disputes.
In addition, Ms. Schrero has represented developers as well as condominium associations and cooperative corporations in default and work out matters and has represented lenders and other lien holders in foreclosure proceedings and guaranty actions.
She also has represented property owners, tenants, real estate brokers, and others as creditors in bankruptcy proceedings and is a member of the leadership committee of Seyfarth’s Distressed Situations Resource Team. Ms. Schrero’s practice includes the general representation of cooperative corporations and condominium associations.
Ms. Schrero’s commercial litigation experience includes complex commercial and corporate disputes such as corporate dissolution proceedings and partnership disputes, as well as post-acquisition disputes, breach of contract disputes and general business disputes. Ms. Schrero also has completed all six courses which comprised Seyfarth’s Retail University and is now a certified member of Seyfarth’s Retail Industry Client Team.
